A closer look.

Notes on value, attention, and the ordinary.

The beginning

The value of a lemon.

A lemon is a lemon. Until you look again.

Take something familiar. Give it space. Put it beneath glass. The object has not changed, but our attention has.

Its uneven surface becomes a landscape. Its colour becomes a signal. What was ordinary begins to hold a room.

There is a difference between adding more and seeing more. We are interested in the latter: the small decision, the precise proportion, the thing that remains when everything unnecessary is removed.

Not everything needs a grand explanation. Sometimes, a single lemon is enough.
